I am a comparativist focusing on Russian labor politics. My work seeks to understand the extent to which labor quiescence is pervasive among Russian workers, challenging the common notion that Russians are passive in their working and political lives. I am interested in Russian labor unions (official and unofficial), monotowns (моногорода), the everyday, more hidden ways that Russian workers engage politically and construct meaning, forms of labor unrest, social movement theory, and interpretive methods.
During the summer of 2019 I conducted pre-dissertation research in Moscow thanks to the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies Civil Society in Russia Research Grant.
