I am a PhD student with concentrations in contemporary political thought and comparative politics, and with a regional focus in Latin America. My research interests include comparative constitutionalism, theories of democracy and democratization, and the relationship between social movements and constitutional change. In my dissertation I will conduct a comparative study of the latest constitution making processes in Bolivia and Ecuador as a way to understand the intersection between mass popular mobilization and constitutionalism. Connected to this project, I am also examining contemporary understandings and displays of the notion of the people and their significance for democracy.
Before coming to UMass, I worked as a researcher in Colombia on constitutional and human rights law, and transitional justice. Here you can find some of the publications that resulted from this work (Spanish):
