Professor Fountain’s keynote, “E-Government: Institutional Challenges and Building Regional Knowledge Sharing” addressed the major institutional hurdles to and developments in e-government in the United States over the last decade. It also outlined steps taken by the current administration to use new technologies to bring about openness in government.

Gerard Braunthal (Prof. Emeritus, Political Science) is the author of the recently published book "Right-Wing Extremism in Contemporary Germany" (Palgrave/Macmillan, 2009). This volume surveys the right-extremist scene in Germany primarily since unification in 1990. It covers the three major rightist parties, the neo-Nazi groups, and the skinhead gangs that are challenging the political status quo.

This past summer Evan Brassard ’10  participated in an internship at Rehabilitative Resources Inc. (RRI), a nonprofit agency in Sturbridge, Mass. RRI specializes in providing services and support to the developmentally disabled. Brassard’s work focused on the agency’s human rights training manuals, the implementation of a teaching aid to help site supervisors relay human rights lessons to individuals served by the programs, and writing a guide to aid in understanding of the state regulations.

Jane Fountain, Professor of Political Science and Public Policy, Director of the National Center for Digital Government, and Director of the Science, Technology and Society Initiative has been appointed for a second year to the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Government.

On 30 September, the European Union released its report on last year's August war in the Caucasus. The aim was to establish what happened, since as stated in the preamble, "there can be no peace in the South Caucasus as long as a common understanding of the facts is not achieved."

Prof. Shulman will be giving an invited Program In Statistics and Methodology lecture hosted by PRISM Director Janet M. Box-Steffensmeier titled "Measuring Validity in Text Analysis". He will also conduct a separate hands-on, computer lab-based training session titled “Coding the Blogosphere: Introducing the Coding and Blog Analysis Toolkits” where he will introduce the Coding Analysis Toolkit (CAT), a web-based service designed to facilitate the measurement and reporting the reliability and validity of work completed by multiple coders.
