Professor Musgrave featured in two stories about President Trump's latest tweets

Paul Musgrave, political science, comments in a news story about President Donald J. Trump’s seemingly contradictory foreign policy views on key subjects such as Syria and trade with China and how often the president’s views are revealed in his Twitter comments. Musgrave says, “Emotionally, it’s incredibly dispiriting to see matters of life and death tossed around so lightly. Analytically, it’s horrifying to see a president whose policymaking agenda is set so trivially.” Musgrave also worries that this process could produce miscalculations. (Vox, 4/11/18)

Paul Musgrave, political science, says more moderate voices in the Trump administration carried the day in the decision to attack a limited number of targets in Syria over the weekend. He says the decision was a victory for Defense Secretary James Mattis and had the support of Gen. Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It was also a setback for John Bolton, the new national security advisory and well-known hawk. (Vox, 4/16/18)
