Fountain gives invited presentations in Venice and China

Jane Fountain, Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Public Policy, was an invited participant at the thirty-fourth Aspen Italia Seminar for Leaders held in Venice, Italy from May 9 to 11. The focus of the seminar session was media and politics in the digital age: participation, transparency, and responsibility. Professor Fountain drew in part from her study of the role of technology in political representation which will be published by the World Economic Forum in June. 

From Italy, Professor Fountain will travel to China where she will be a guest of the Chinese Academy, the United Nations, the eGovernment Research Center, and several Chinese universities. She will deliver a keynote address at the International Seminar on E-governance in Asia in Beijing, followed by lectures on e-Government and political institutions at Fudan University in Shanghai, at Jilin University in Changchun, and at Central University of Finance and Economics and Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Professor Fountain is the founder and Director of the National Center for Digital Government and the Science, Technology and Society Initiative, and she is author of Building the Virtual State: Information Technology and Institutional Change (Brookings Institution Press, 2001), which has been translated into Chinese, Portuguese, Japanese, and Spanish. Professor Fountain is a former Chair and Vice Chair, and currently an appointed member, of the World Economic Forum Global Advisory Council on the Future of Government and was a member of American Bar Association blue ribbon commission on the Future of e-Rulemaking. She currently serves an appointment on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Governor's Council on Innovation.
