Ukraine Versus Russia at the International Court of Justice

Fausto Pocar, Professor Emeritus of International Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Milan, President of the San Remo International Institute of Humanitarian Law, and a member of the Hauge Academy of International Law, will join us for a discussion on "Russia and Ukraine at the International Court of Justice." Judge Pocar sat as judge ad hoc at the International Court of Justice in the cases of Belgium vs. Switzerland and the recent case Ukraine vs. Russia.  He has also served as a judge at the International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, as Chairman of the United Nations Human Rights Committee, and as Special Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to Chechnya and Russian Federation. Judge Pocar is the author of hundreds of publications on international law, human rights and humanitarian law, international criminal law, private international law, and European law, and has been awarded the Great Cross Knighthood by the President of the Italian Republic. 

This event is presented by the Human Security Lab and sponsored by the Office of the Chancellor, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Department of Political Science, and the Legal Studies program.
