A number of these students are selected each semester through a competitive nomination process to receive the UMass Amherst Rising Researcher award in recognition of their scholarly achievements and their related impact on their chosen fields.

Professor Dean Robinson’s Public Policy Seminar in Health and Health Care Inequality in the United States Incorporates Perspectives from our Northern Neighbor

In late January twelve students from political science, biology, psychology, and other majors boarded a bus for Montreal, Quebec for a series of meetings and presentations on health and health care inequality in the Canadian context.

As part of PoliSci 297 with State Rep Aaron Vega, students took a day trip to the Massachusetts State House. This day trip was the culmination of their hard work in class and mirrored the experience they were studying about throughout the semester.

All SBS students acquire and exhibit leadership qualities through their participation in a variety of campus activities; however there is one group in particular that is focused on empowering leaders within the SBS community.

The Academic Leadership Fellows Program (ALFP) supports SBS undergraduate students to develop their academic and leadership potential to their fullest extent. The program gives students an academic community in which to grow and flourish.

PhD student Tyler Schuenemann has received a 2015-2016 Fulbright Scholarship to continue his dissertation research in Oman.  Tyler will use the Fulbright funding to investigate the responses to climate-related disasters in Oman in order to document how the impetus to recover from, and anticipate the next disaster is impacting how state institutions and civic organizations govern life and an unknown future.
