Funding Opportunities

Internal Funding - Department of Political Science

Teaching Assistantships (TAs) and Associateships (TOs)

The Department offers a number of TA and TO positions each semester. Preference and application forms are emailed during the first few months of the semester for the NEXT semester's positions. Pay attention to the graduate student listserve!

Graduate Student Department Grants

This department provides modest amounts of competitively allocated grant support to doctoral students currently in their second year or higher for conference travel and summer research or training in the following categories:

Applications for conference travel grants are accepted twice a year:  fall (December 1) and spring (March 15).

Summer grant applications are accepted only in the spring semester (March 15).

Students may apply for more than one summer grant in the same year, but will be required to prioritize/rank their funding requests on the application form.

External Funding

A good first step in the pursuit of external funding is to visit GrantSearch for Grad Students. There you can read through a FAQ and tips for finding and applying for grants -- including grants for international students, minorities, and women.

Once you identify an external grant program for which you'd like to apply, contact the Director of Administration and Research in the Department who can help you through the application process by reviewing proposal drafts and helping to create a budget.
