Political Science undergraduates attended the 2nd Annual Women’s Leadership Conference, hosted by The University of Massachusetts’s Student Government Association on Sunday, November 15th 2015. The event, which was organized by the SGA Women’s Caucus, had the theme of “The Power of We”.
“The women’s leadership conference is aligned with SGA’s mission statement, in that it help to represent a group on campus that is powerful. It gave women the opportunity to learn leadership skills, evaluate their own talents, and learn from others what they can do to improve themselves. The conference featured a keynote speech from speaker Angela Lussier, an UMass alumna. Among the lecturers included Crystal Paul, a member of Political Science’s administrative staff, who presented on the power individuals have to enact change as individuals and as a collective “we”. The event included facilitated workshops on wage gaps, stereotypes of women’s leadership styles, and more. Attendees also had the opportunity to gain skills on learning how to empower themselves to gain leadership roles.
