General Body Meeting on UMASSMUN Conference and Human Trafficking

This Wednesday (10/10) at 7:30 PM we will be having our bi-weekly General Body Meeting. The meeting will start with a brief presentation by our own Secretary-General, Casey Waugh on our annual Model UN Conference that we host for local high school students, UMASSMUN. From there we will move on to the main topic which will be the global crisis of human trafficking.
Last Tuesday, President Obama made a landmark speech on modern day slavery, in which he stated that for the first time the United States will be included in the annual world human trafficking report. While his speech may not have made much of a splash this close to the election, it turns the spotlight on a daily crime against humanity that leads to the imprisonment and exploitation of millions each year. IRC will provide a short presentation, with clips of Obama’s speech and human trafficking in today’s media, as well as answers to your FAQs and some stats. We then hope to have a discussion on the topic and hear what kind of action you think needs to be taken.
