Professor Goldman quoted on Kavanaugh's case

Sheldon Goldman, political science, says the partisan sentiments expressed by Judge Brett Kavanaugh during a recent hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee was a direct appeal to the party of Donald J. Trump. “The support of the president, that’s the name of the game. It’s short-term consideration to keep the support of the Republicans or the president, at the expense of public perception of him and the court,” Goldman says. He says this issue matters because people want to believe the court is neutral. “And if the court is considered simply another political body, people are going to ask: Why should we insulate these lifetime appointments from politics when they’re so heavily involved in politics?” (CBC [Canada], 9/29/18)
