Thursday, March 9, 2023 - 4:00pm Daniel Gascon from University of Massachusetts Boston will be presenting his work, "South American Journey: Ethnographic and Criminological Reflections". This talk traces the nearly two-year-long journey in which my colleagues and I co-edited the volume, Postcolonial Policing: On the Criminology of State Violence in the Americas, set for publication later this year with the internationally renowned publisher, Palgrave-Macmillan. Our collaboration culminated in organizing a workshop series at the 2022 annual meeting of the Foro Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales conference in Montevideo, Uruguay (or simply, the “Uruguay Workshop”). These projects build on the rich but humble international/comparative tradition within criminology. We examine state-society relations from a critical perspective, looking both within and beyond U.S. borders to explore the resonances throughout the American region." |
