Holmes, Siulc receive Davis IE Faculty Fellowships
Judy Holmes and Nina Siulc have been selected as 2011-2012 Davis Integrative Experience (IE) Faculty Fellows. The fellowship is part of a three-year grant from the Davis Educational Foundation to support General Education reform at the University.
The Integrative Experience is a component of UMass' General Education requirement which "provides a structured context for students to reflect on their own learning and explore the connections between the broad exposure provided by General Education and the more focused exposure of their major." The grant and fellowship seek to develop ways in which the curricular undergraduate experience -- which consists of a series of sometimes disjointed general education, major, minor, and elective requirements -- can become unified, or "integrated."
As fellows, Holmes and Siulc will work to develop and pilot IE models for the department, evaluate their effectiveness, and provide consulting and design support to other departments as they develop their IE plans. They are two of 14 fellows selected campus-wide.
